The Center for Academic Innovation has named 18 University of Michigan faculty members as the inaugural recipients of the Public Engagement Faculty Fellowship. The cohort includes nine Fellows eager to explore and build their skills, and nine Mentor Fellows with more experience in public engagement.

The impact of the Peer Facilitator component to the UROP program is two-fold: it provides a platform of support and academic engagement for younger students, but also empowers older students to become teachers and leaders. PFs act as a bridge for student success by combating imposterism and inequity, and contributing to student retention and achievement.

As universities around the country transitioned to online instruction, faculty and staff members had to quickly change how they teach and work. The shift has been filled with challenges, but also new opportunities.
“Having to change what you do and how you do it leads to other ways of trying new things, which can be positive,” Colleen Conway, professor of music education said.
