A team of UMSI Bachelor of Science in Information (BSI) capstone students leveraged their data analysis skills to improve community health in the Dominican Republic with nonprofit organization Puente.
Co-founded by UMSI alum Hope Tambala (MSI ’20), Puente employs a mutual empowerment framework to train local residents to collect data from their communities in order to plan and implement community development projects.
For their capstone on the Information Analysis path, BSI grads Hamza Baccouche, Katherine Berry, Drue Froeschke and Mattias Siimar teamed up on the project “Using Unsupervised Clustering Models to Identify High Need Communities in the Dominican Republic.” Together, they analyzed data to help Puente match communities with donor organizations to improve their quality of life.
