Digital learning professional development resources available

The University Record

The University of Michigan has joined the Online Learning Consortium to provide professional development resources in digital learning to faculty and staff on all of its campuses.

The membership includes free events and webinars, publications, faculty playbooks and discounted pricing on additional resources.

“Our faculty and staff are transforming our future education experience by integrating the lessons learned from using digital learning tools and methods during the pandemic into the in-person classroom environment,” said Ravi Pendse, vice president for information technology and chief information officer.

“This is a critical time for supporting the innovative use of technology in the classroom and workplace, and providing access to materials to grow digital learning is an important step.”

Any U-M faculty or staff member may create an account on the OLC website using their U-M email address to get started with the following resources:

  • Free events and webinars on topics such as Open Educational Resources, culturally responsive online teaching in science, technology, engineering and math topics, and more.
  • Various publications, including white papers and the Online Learning Journal.
  • Faculty playbooks such as the Blended Learning and Caring for Students Playbooks.
  • Consulting services and customized trainings.
  • Member pricing on additional publications, white papers, workshops, certificate programs and conferences.

“LSA is thrilled to join the group bringing OLC membership to all of U-M. LSA staff have really appreciated attending OLC conferences, following best practices in digital education, and keeping up on the research in the field of online learning with the Online Learning Journal published by the OLC. There are so many great resources,” said Monika Dressler, director of academic technologies for LSA Technology Services.

The institutional membership to OLC was made possible by funding support from more than a dozen academic and administrative units with coordination from Information and Technology Services.

OLC is just one source of these types of materials. Additional resources for the university community on the use of technology in education and higher ed include resources available from IMS Global, EDUCAUSE and LinkedIn Learning.
