Data science is now one of the most interdisciplinary fields in academia. In the age of information technology, data-driven science is growing so quickly that it is widely considered a fourth mode of scientific discovery, along with theory, physical experimentation, and computational analysis.
The Michigan Institute for Data Science (MIDAS) builds on the university’s strengths in data science to benefit the campus, state, and nation by advancing cross-cutting data science methodologies and developing new educational programs that leverage world-class data science services and infrastructure.
MIDAS provides a focal point for researchers across the university engaged in data science. Nearly 200 faculty members from more than 50 departments are affiliated with MIDAS.
